I recently visited the Channon Markets in northern NSW, pretty famous craft markets not very far from Nimbin. On the way back I took a short cut into Whian Whian State Conservation Area, a parcel of mixed forest timbers gazetted in 2003 as part of the efforts to protect Nightcap National Park and the flora and fauna within it.
The canopy trees on the drive into the conservation area were really impressive, very tall Black butts Eucalyptus pilularis, and Flooded gums Eucalyptus grandis.
The views get even better the further into the forest you go, with a mixture of palm groves and swamp box Lophostemon confertus
Approximately 7km into the forest you come to a carparking area with a short board walk to the edge of a beautiful gorge and the cliffs of Minyon Falls.
Even the car park area had a cathedral like quality to it, I really love the way such places make me feel.
Once out of the forest on the road back to Mullumbimby the views were a little less awe inspiring, well at least from the perspective of an tree tragic like me....
However on the way back i did meet up with an old friend Angie;Veteran Fig Tree at Condong
